Bigpoint and Ravensburger cooperate on the browser-game adaptation “Mister X”

  • Online version of the best-selling board games “Mister X” and “Scotland Yard” to be launched in spring 2011
Hamburg/Munich, July 6, 2010– The hunt for Mr. X enters a new and exciting phase: Bigpoint (www.bigpoint.com), the world’s leading browser-game developer and publisher, and Ravensburger Digital, subsidiary of the established Ravensburger Group, are launching a new online version of the classic board game for millions of fans on the Bigpoint game portal.

Starting in spring 2011, enthusiastic fans of Mr. X and Scotland Yard should be able to explore this popular strategy game’s world from anywhere and in a completely new fashion. Playing as detectives, users will experience tons of fun and action while they use their knowledge in various missions to track down Mr. X. The potential for interactive gaming inherent in MMOGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Games) will take the game to a new level and offer even experienced strategy-game fans new challenges.

Heiko Hubertz, CEO and founder of Bigpoint: “Board games aren’t just played at home on the dining room table anymore, they’re starting to take over the digital world as well. That’s why it is both an honor and a pleasure for us to be able to develop an online action strategy game based on one of Ravenburger’s most popular and well-known board games ever. Now, not only friends at home but thousands of players worldwide will be able to join in the fascinating pursuit of Mr. X.”

“Ravensburger Digital was founded to firmly establish our top titles in the digital world, and online games are a very important strategic part of that process. Thanks to Bigpoint’s expertise in developing and publishing browser games, we can launch our classics onto the online gaming market and offer old and new fans alike an action-packed and thrilling adventure with Mr. X,” says Thomas Bleyer, CEO of Ravensburger Digital.

In 1983, the Ravensburger blockbuster “Scotland Yard” was crowned Game of the Year and since then has continued to thrill millions of fans. Whether by train, plane or automobile, players will have to cooperate with each other if they want to nab the elusive Mr. X. Strategy and cooperative playing have always been a key part of the game’s concept and account for its popularity in many forms around the world. While the original edition is set in London, the German sequel “Mister X – Flucht durch Europa” includes a huge continental map as well as new strategic elements.
